Hello to Everyone

As the Holidays are now here and we are all indulging in festivities

and may be forgetting to run, to cold or not training as much because

there isn’t an ultra near by. Well here is one to look forward to,

Moab’s Red Hot 50k+ February 17th here in Moabs beautiful red rock

country. This race is during Presidents Day Weekend so you probably

don’t have to race home right away too. The course will start at Gemini

Bridges Trailhead (Hwy191) north of Moab. It will proceed up to Little

Canyon Rim Rd, also known as Metal Masher, then loop around back to

Gemini Bridges rd. Runners will then connect to Trigger Rd. and

eventually will connect to Gold Bar Rim. Now this is where it gets to

be an ass kicker! You will be running (slickrock) on what is called

Golden Spike Trail across Gold Bar Rim. Golden Spike zig zags

approximately 5 miles up and down the rim and it’s steep. Once Golden

Spike is over you will be on Poison Spider and from here it’s a lot of

down hill to the finish-line (Poison Spider Trailhead). I have the race

at approximately 35.65 hence 50k+. I have the gain at 3,848 and loss at

4,451. A map to look at is Moab West: Mountain Biking and Recreation

6th edition. There are five aid stations along this scenic and

beautiful course. You will have veiws of Arches, Canyonlands National

Parks and the Moab Valley. The limit is 100 runners and there are

plenty of space left as of now but it will fill fast. So if you are

tired of the cold where you live in the month of February, think about

Moab’s Red Hot 50k+ for your early UR calander. You can get an

application at mas50.com/redhot/ or go to mas50.com and there is a link

on the home page. Thanks for your time
