Mesa to Mesa FA50K

Posted by planetultramarathon on December 14, 2006

I’m sending this to the list only because Deb and I do not yet know most of

the runners in this area…if you think you might want to come run this new

event and will be traveling, bring your sleeping bag, you’re staying with

us…we have plenty of floorspace!

Come celebrate the New Year’s weekend in Northern New Mexico.

**************************************************

Announcing the first annual end-of-the-year, fat ass 50K, whatever you want

to call it get together of runners at our house in the beautiful Jemez

Mountains!

This run will be run south of where we live in the Sierra los Pinos

community of Jemez Springs, about 30 minutes west of Los Alamos on Rte 4.

The plan is to meet in the morning at our house around 7:30 on Saturday,

December 30th…this is the day BEFORE New Year’s Eve, so it shouldn’t

conflict with any holiday plans you might have. We will then hop in as few

vehicles as possible for the two mile drive up to the top of Cat Mesa for

the start. The course is a loop along two mesas (hence the name), and is

mostly on very runnable double track and dirt roads. We’ll start out by

running 17 miles along the top of San Juan Mesa (fast and downhill) with

great views, switchbacking down to Ponderosa and about two miles of

pavement. We’ll head off road again through the canyon, through some sand

and arroyos and then head back up on a craggy, rocky and sandy switchback to

Cat Mesa, where you will hop over a cattle gate and run a great road about

12 miles back to the vehicles (very runnable and slightly uphill). This is

also a great final run for those of you running Bandera or HURT…

After the run we shower, eat and drink back at our house for as long as you

want…feel free to crash for the night! Any and all are welcome…bring

your significant others!

The run will be cancelled if we get any significant snowfall, but the party

won’t be ;-)
