10 of December 2006. Hi everyone I hope you are all well and in the Christmas spirit. This is a text I received from Rosie last week, the last time I spoke to her she was very focused to get to Regina her next objective which I estimate is about 130 miles away. As you all know she has come up against some very difficult whether conditions, I’m not quite sure what the weather is at the moment, but I am hoping that she able to make good progress and there is not too much wind.
Please have a read of the e-mail below that I was sent by Michael Myers who met Rosie in August, it is one of the most inspiring e-mails I have ever read concerning Rosie. And it reminded me of when I was visiting Rosie in Alaska this summer, I did not meet Michael while I was there, but he reminded me of many other truly inspiring people that I met during my visit to Alaska, who were following their dreams and their personal challenges, in this amazing place and traveling right across America and Canada by bike. Michael, I wish you and your father the very best. James
From Rosie
‘I struggled through whiteout conditions, -30Â
temps and a mean 60 mph headwind most of the wayÂ
to Saskatoon. but it is one of the most friendlyÂ
and hospitable cities on earth. Every snowyÂ
belaboured step was worth all the effort. Saskatoon’sÂ
motto is ‘Saskatoon Shines’- and this is true inÂ
all weathers because the huge warmth of welcomeÂ
belies the weather. I have amazing stories toÂ
tell about my high adventures here. Will have toÂ
recount them in next email - just want to checkÂ
this reaches you ok.Â
I am staying with Jim and Takako Travis who areÂ
among the wonderful people who are beingÂ
absolutely great. Next stop will be Regina 160 milesÂ
away.’. (More follows! - love you loads. Rosiexx
