That’s what an 18-year-old former cross country and track athlete has set out to do in an effort to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Jesse Zweig began his ambitious goal of running 200 miles in two days on Thursday afternoon. He hopes to raise $20,000 for the hospital.

Zweig’s route will take him to the canyons, then to the coast and back - twice.

A day before he took off, he visited children at the hospital and rested up.

“The only way I’ll give up is if my body gives out,” he said. When the going gets tough, he said his inspiration will be the kids at the medical center.

In May, Zweig ran 100 miles in 24 hours, raising more than $6,000 for the hospital.

Denise Almazan, a hospital spokeswoman, said the staff is concerned about the length of the latest run, but knows Zweig has been training with his former coach and friends from the track team.

“He’s an amazing young man, and we applaud him for his philanthropy,”

Almazan said.
