Colac 6 day race – Twelve reasons for it to continue

Posted by planetultramarathon on February 17, 2007

Thanks to the eighty one people that have signed the petition to keep the Cliff Young Australian 6-day race at Memorial Square, Colac. If you havent signed the petition, it’s at:

TWELVE REASONS WHY THE RACE SHOULD CONTINUE

  1. It is one of the oldest running multi-day track races in the world
  2. Memorial Square, Colac is where Cliff Young started his foray into multi-day track racing when he first attempted to run 1000 miles. Cliff deserves to have a living monument to his memory.
  3. It is the most picturesque track venue in Australia and possibly one of the most picturesque track venues in the world.
  4. It is a very shady course.
  5. It is very close to the main township of Colac and it’s shopping facilities.
  6. The race has brought at least $1 million dollars into the Colac Otway shire over the last twenty years. This is great for tourism and business.
  7. The race is held in very high regard by the ultra community around the Globe.
  8. It is not very far from capital city infrastructure and transport.
  9. I would like to participate in the race one day. :-)
  10. If the Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane race comes together the Colac 6-day race can become a qualifying event for it. This will boost the race no end.
  11. If done properly the race can bring a lot more money to the Colac Otway Shire.
  12. There is a lot of history involved in the race and it deserves to continue.

What ever occurs in a week’s time, I will make sure that the memory of Cliff Young continues through the web page and in some other way.
