Colac 6 day race – Twelve reasons for it to continue
Posted by planetultramarathon on February 17, 2007
Thanks to the eighty one people that have signed the petition to keep the Cliff Young Australian 6-day race at Memorial Square, Colac. If you havent signed the petition, it’s at:
http://www.planetultramarathon.com/guestbook.htm
TWELVE REASONS WHY THE RACE SHOULD CONTINUE
- It is one of the oldest running multi-day track races in the world
- Memorial Square, Colac is where Cliff Young started his foray into multi-day track racing when he first attempted to run 1000 miles. Cliff deserves to have a living monument to his memory.
- It is the most picturesque track venue in Australia and possibly one of the most picturesque track venues in the world.
- It is a very shady course.
- It is very close to the main township of Colac and it’s shopping facilities.
- The race has brought at least $1 million dollars into the Colac Otway shire over the last twenty years. This is great for tourism and business.
- The race is held in very high regard by the ultra community around the Globe.
- It is not very far from capital city infrastructure and transport.
- I would like to participate in the race one day.
- If the Melbourne – Sydney – Brisbane race comes together the Colac 6-day race can become a qualifying event for it. This will boost the race no end.
- If done properly the race can bring a lot more money to the Colac Otway Shire.
- There is a lot of history involved in the race and it deserves to continue.
What ever occurs in a week’s time, I will make sure that the memory of Cliff Young continues through the web page and in some other way.
