The Badwater Solo is NOT Canceled!

There seems to be a nasty rumor circulating, saying that
the Badwater Solo has been canceled.
That's not exactly true. In fact, it's not true at all.

Here's the deal. The Solo Crossing is NOT an official event.
It does not have an official date except that, by long-standing
tradition, the course must be run during the July-August window.
The course is public domain, so it is open for any runner,
anytime. Anyone who runs from Badwater to Mt.Whitney
during July or August is a Badwater Solo finisher.
What happens is that, after one runner announces a date
for his run, a number of other runners decide to start
at the same time. Each runner is there as an
individual. There are no entry fees and no permits
required (other than a Whitney Trail permit if the runner
decides to continue to the summit of Mt.
Whitney). For the past couple of years, buckles
have been donated to all finishers.

For the Badwater Solo to be canceled, ALL runners
would have to decide independently that they were not
planning to run. That has not happened. As
far as I know, there are ten individuals planning to
run a Badwater Solo this summer. My husband John and I are
both planning to run. At this point, all ten are planning to
start on July 1st. No other dates have yet been
announced. The names of these runners have been posted
on the Badwater Forumat
 http://www.BadwaterForum.org <http://www.badwaterforum.org/>
under the "General Stuff" category. Anyone is welcome to
join us on July 1st, or to plan a crossing for any other date.
If you'd like your name posted with the
others, or if you'd like more information, you can email
me or post to the Forum.

Thanks. I just wanted to clear this up.
