Mount Cheaha 50K: Race to Top of Alabama report from the sidelines
I am surprised no one as posted about this race from this past weekend.
There was a field of about 125 or so runners from all around the SE. The
day was beautiful compared to last year, and the trails were still tough -
I volunteered at the 3rd aid station (14.5 miles into the course). A lot of
runners were coming through saying that it was “very technical!”, “tougher
than Mtn. Mist!”, and “tough, but beautiful!”. While the wind took a factor
on the aid station’s contents (several times, stuff blew off the table from
30mph gusts!), all the runners never seemed to notice it from the dense
woods the trail goes through.
It was a thrill to see so many people finish a tough course. Todd Henderson
did another GREAT job for the 2nd year of this event. The amount of work
that he does pays off. I never knew how much work he put into this race
until I watched him direct it during the time the race was actually
running. I recommend this race to everyone; I think this race will be a
premiere February event for the SE for years to come! Congrats to all
finishers!
