“Running” starring Michael Douglas

Posted by planetultramarathon on March 3, 2007

Managed to get hold of a copy of this film on dvd after not seeing it for about 15 plus years. It is one of my favourite running movies and it was good to watch again. I wander if Michael Douglas is as fit now as he was when he made this film! Unless they employed a stunt double!

If people can’t remember it, he plays a marathon runner who has separated from his family and has ambitions to run in the Olympics. He is well known in the sport as being a quitter who doesnt even turn up for the big races! The film has a good twist towards the end that still tuggs at the heartstrings!

Any other favourite running films out there?

I saw that obsure movie in a Montreal movie theater back in the late 70’s. I believe that it was actually filmed in Montreal. Nice reference. How about “The Jericho Mile” with Peter Strauss? A Classic! Was a made for TV Movie about an inmate who tries to qualify for the US Olympic Team in the Mile (or 1500m). Others are “Running Brave” (The Billy Mills story) and “Beyond Limits” (in my opinion, the better of the 2 Prefontaine films).

    Peace, Chris
