The Ghost Town 38.5
The Ghost Town 38.5 (miles) is a fairly new ultra - it’s inaugural run was in ‘06. It’s held on Martin Luther King jr. weekend in Jan. each year and runners come from all over the USA to participate. Registration is open for ‘08 already, more can be learned from the website
http://www.journeyheretothere.com/the_ghost_town_38_5.htm
If you’ve any questions, please let me know. The race report for ‘07 should be in April’s UltraRunning as well as in Colorado Runner April/May.
The miles may look short compared to some ultras, but I get many 100 milers who find it a challenge and it’s a great first time ultra. If you’re ready to stretch past 50k, this is a great race.
Why mention it now, when there are ten months before the ‘08 race? There’s an unofficial cap on the number of participants, and housing in the surrounding villages (pop. 140 and 50) fills early. Overflow heads down to the nearest town (about a 35 - 40 min. drive). I recommend booking your room early! Of course, those wishing to camp can do so for free on my property (which is also headquarters and the start/finish line).
The website will give you the flavor of this very unique event. It’s about good running in a gorgeous place, all the while being shown good old-fashion hospitality.
Hope to see you next January! susan
