Run100forCharity.info – not just 100’s – any ultra fundraiser
Posted by planetultramarathon on March 19, 2007
Just a cliarification – anyone doing an ultra for a fundraiser can let me
know your info and I’ll add you to it. I picked the URL name just because
the 100 gets people’s attention.
So far I have 3 folks lined up to have their fundraiser listed on it – so I
hope to get it operational this week! C’mon, there must be more of you that
are doing an ultra that you could tie in with a worthy charity – and the
extra incentive will keep you going that extra mile during your race!
For those of you that don’t know where to start, thanks to one of the 3
individuals mentioned above, I found firstgiving.com for creating my
personal fundraiser site for my local food bank:
https://www.firstgiving.com/tomjennings
It took me a max of 30 minutes to set up the website, and most of that time
was figuring out what to say and finding a picture to include on the site.
It is ridiculously easy to set up your site – a wizard walks you through it
step by step. All you have to provide is your email address and your
charity. Firstgiving.com takes 5% of the donation as their transaction /
website hosting fee, plus a 2.35% credit card transaction fee. So if
someones donates $100, the charity gets $ 92.65. Not bad for something so
easy! I also included a PO box snail-mail address for folks that would like
to contribute by check since not everyone is comfortable donating online
with their credit card.

Run100forCharity.info – ‘ordinary people going to the extreme for charity’
—————————————-
I’m running the Mohican 100 trail run in mid-June and decided to tie it in
with a fundraiser for my local food bank. Each $1 I raise enables them to
acquire $17 (!!!) worth of food. So I am in the process of creating this
website:
as a portal / traffic director to other ultra marathoner’s 100 mile
fundraisers besides my own. Just let me know your info and your fundraiser’s
website and I’ll be happy to put your info on it. I’m thinking that a short
bio for each person, the race they are doing, and info about the
organization they are raising funds for will be needed. Let me know of other
ideas that might be good to include.
I’m hoping to have it operatonal later this week (perhaps even this
weekend).
Go long!
