Umstead 100 Weather Outlook
March 28, 2007 — planetultramarathon
For those of you traveling to Raleigh for the Umstead 100 miler, the weather
is looking decent for Saturday and Sunday. Of course, even 5 days out can
be a guess but I’d like to think that 39 to 72 with partly cloudy skies
predicted for Saturday is going to hold until the weekend gets here. The rain
predicted for Thursday will hopefully be enough to knock some of the pine
pollen out of the air. Check out _www.wral.com_ (http://www.wral.com) for their
weather link.
For you allergy sufferers, be prepared for pollen. Same for contact wearers
(keep your saline solution handy). I try to wear close fitting glasses
(clear for night and dark for day time) to keep the pollen out.
At the 6 AM start, you will probably need a flashlight until you get out to
the main Bike and Bridle Trail. After that, the light trail and open tree
cover should provide enough ambient light to see the trail.
Be prepared for cool night time temps if it goes below 40. The cooldown
should hit right before the weekend. So it may be a perfect weekend for a long
run.
Look forward to seeing you all on Friday.
Safe travels.
