THIRTEEN Circular Head women – and one very brave man – are “all primed up” to hit Tasmania’s highways and byways this week to help fight breast cancer.
The Bosom Buddies will set off from Smithton tomorrow morning on their 10-day fundraising journey to Hobart, and group member Jude King said the team was “chomping at the bit”.

“Everyone’s raring to go … the girls have been working on their fitness and increasing their walking (in the lead-up),” she said.

“We’ve got Crighton Horton walking with us too, he’s representing the 1percent of men who suffer breast cancer.”

Mrs King said nine of the walkers had survived breast cancer, and the rest had family or friends affected by the disease.

Mrs King said the Smithton community would be out in force at a street parade at 9am tomorrow to farewell the walkers, with other ceremonies planned for towns along the route.

“The support in Circular Head has just been huge … people have just been so generous.”

The team has been raising funds since October last year, and through the walk hopes to raise $100,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

People are welcome to join the walkers on their journey but must register at the designated gathering points before the start of the day’s walking.
