Runner Hiking Appalachian Trail
Posted by planetultramarathon on April 10, 2007
Billy Simpson ( trail name, Woodstock ) from Memphis TN started the Appl . Trail on March 1. He is hiking the about 20 to 25 miles per day and
plans on finishing the trail around June 15 for a total of around 110 days.
Billy is on the Montrail Regional Ultrarunning team.
He finished in 11th place in the 2006 Hardrock 100 Miler. I picked him up for three days in a row and brought him back to my house to sleep for the night.
He is fortunate in that we have had record lows the last three days, around 24 degrees.
If you would like to hike with him or pick him up sometime if you live close to the AT, do so. He said there are only about 8 or 9 through hikers ahead of him. He is a big talker and having the time of his life.
For you ultrarunners, consider hiking one of the long trails someday, I think that you would love it.

Hiking from Georgia to Maine is a very special challenge
