BLUE PLANET RUN - the word is out!
April 25, 2007 — planetultramarathon
Hi all! I can now talk about this wonderful event of which I will be a
part publically.
I am one of twenty runners participating this summer in an around the
world relay. The Blue Planet Run ( www.blueplanetrun.org) will cover
15,200 miles throughout the US, Ireland, the UK, France, Belgium,
Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Belarus, Russia,
Mongolia, China, and Japan, spreading awareness of the need for clean
drinking water in developing countries. As one of the runners, I get to
run the entire way, 10 miles a day for 92 days, and help spread the
message! Starting on June 1st at the United Nations, we will be
traveling and literally running around the world! The team just met in
London for the official kickoff ceremony. The other runners are so
amazing and inspiring, from 13 different countries and a myriad of
nationalities and life experiences. I have no doubt that this will be a
life-changing and incredible experience, and I feel so fortunate and
lucky to have been chosen.
Doing this run also means that the chance of my being somewhere near
friends and family at some point this summer is very very high. The
schedule of cities and dates is listed on the website. Some places and
dates include NYC for the start on June 1st and finish on Sep. 4th,
Washington D.C. on Aug. 31st, Chicago on Aug. 22, Los Angeles on Aug
5th. During our trek around the world we will be running through exotic
places including the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, past the Great China Wall,
Moab in the U.S. We will also be passing through San Fran, Napa,
Oakland, Leadville and other places close and dear to my heart in the
ultrarunning world. Check out the website for more on what we’re doing,
how to support us, etc., www.blueplanetrun.org
We begin our journey with “boot camp” on May 25 and I’ll be gone from
then until September 5 or so. I’ll be signing off the ultralist at some
point for the time away. Mike Silverman, director of the Vermont 50, is
assuming my Vermont 100 duties and working closely with RD Jim
Hutchinson. It will be strange not to be there but I’ll surely be there
for next year’s 20th running.
Best wishes for great training and competition to you all this summer!
Happy trails, Vermont Dot
