Comrades to move to May date from 2009

Posted by planetultramarathon on May 16, 2008

Durban – The Comrades marathon in 2009 and 2010 will move back to May to avoid clashes with the Confederations Cup and the World Cup, Athletics South Africa and the Comrades Marathon Association announced yesterday. The 2009 race will be on May 24. This means the 84th Comrades will see over 12 000 runners line up on the same spot the 34 pioneers of the first race held in 1921 started their historic trip from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. A clash of timing with the 2010 World Cup which will commence on June 11 at Soccer City will see the Comrades move to Sunday, May 30.
