The reason why I conducted the “first and only Bataan Death March Challenge” in April 2000 held along the exact route where the event occured because I was challenged why in the world would the ROTC of White Sands, New Mexico, USA celebrate such event in their desert where a handful of US World War II survivors from that State would be supported and commemorated. Also, there are three other places/States in the US where they commemorate this famous Bataan Death March.

Finally, the number of participants in this Sunday’s (April 5) 1st Bataan Death March 102K Ultramarathon Race will be 82 runners where 8 are foreigners & 5 are women. So far, the response of our runners had exceeded our expectations and I could not believe that the participants for this inaugural event had reached to such number. We hope to provide you with our race report after the race.

This is Major General Jovenal D Narcise (Retired) from the Armed Forces of the Philipines & formerly a Commander of an Infantry Division with the Philipine Army. At present, I am the President & Owner of the Bald Runner’s Events which is presently promoting ultramarathon running in the Philippines. I am also known as the Bald Runner among the running community in the country (www.baldrunner.com).
I would like to inform you that I have organized the Inaugural Bataan Death March 102K Ultramarathon Race which will be held on 1:00 AM of 5 April 2009 along the actual route of the WWII Death March where thousands of US & Filipino troops died due to diesease, hot weather, lack of support and worst, from the atrocities made by the Japanese Imperial Army. This race will be the first ultramarathon race in the country to commemorate the historic event with a cut-off time of 18 hours.
At present, 105 runner-applicants posted their intentions to our website at http://www.bataan102.com but I am expecting at least 60 serious runners to finally be at the starting area which will be a good number of participants as a start for this annual event. There are 8 foreigners and 8 lady runners who are sure of joining the said ultra race.
I would like to request therefore on your end to please include the Bataan Death March 102 Ultramarathon Race as an annual event in your ultramarathon calendar. Next year, 2010, the event will be conducted on 13-14 March 2010. For the details of next year’s event, it will be posted at http://www.bataan102.com.
Thanks and More Power,
Sir Jovie aka Bald Runner
