Good Luck to the runners in Cairo. I prepared this posting but left it too late! Here it is:
The 48 hour race in Cairo! Also a Google translation of Jesper Olsen’s World Run 2 interview to a Danish cultural magazine.
Danish ultra runner, Jesper Olsen is currently running around the world for the second time! Last July 1st,the great Dane set out from Nordkap in the Norwegian Artic Circle to run the earth in a north/south/north direction. He intends to run more than 40,000km in about 2 and a half years. Sarah Barnett a 32 year old runner from Adelaide,Australia started the world run in Norway running with him through Europe as far as southern Turkey. Jesper ran through the Middle-East on his own. After Cairo He will run south through Egypt, Sudan as far as Cape Town. After a commute to Tierra del Fuego he will head north through the America’s as far as New Foundland.
Currently after almost 9,000km he is in Cairo,Egypt. With a bit of down time due to visa applications.
Jesper, not one to be idle – has with the help of the Danish Embassy in Cairo and Aussie http://www.ultralegends.com webmaster, Phil Essam set up a 48 hour track race starting in Cairo’s Gzira Sports Club January 7th and ending on January 9th.
Details of this race can be found on Jesper’s World Run website http://www.worldrun.org
On his site you can also browse his World Run daily reports.
There is also a very interesting interview he gave to a Danish Cultural magazine. I have run it through a Google translation engine and pasted the English translation link below. It is a bit rough but interesting!
Good luck Jesper and all the other runners in Cairo! Tony Mangan.
