The 2008 Comrades Marathon which will be run between Durban and Pietermaritzburg on June 17 was officially launched in Johannesburg on Thursday.

And on board were all their established sponsors including Nedbank, who have also gone into golf and soccer sponsorship, as well as disabled sport, fly-fishing etc, Imperial Car Rental, one of the longest serving sponsors of the event, and Energade, the sports energy drink.

Dave Dixon, chairman of the Comrades Marathon Association, was upbeat about the 2008 Comrades and said that his organisation would be looking at new ways to increase participation in the world famous race.

“We would be focusing on different strategies and hopefully bring out innovations which would encourage athletes to take part in the gruelling ultra-marathon,” he said.
