500km Peace March for Tibet’s Freedom

New Delhi, December 31: Ten members of the ‘Youth Volunteers for Free Tibet’ (YVFT), a Delhi based Tibetan Youth activist group working on the issue of Tibetan freedom struggle, are leading a Peace March from Jantar Mantar to Majnukatilla today at 4pm. After which the peace march will further take it’s route towards Dharamsala, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the seat of Tibetan Government-in-exile on 1st January 2008.

The distance from Delhi to Dharamsala is approximately 560 kms, which they expect to cover within 15 days.

Following are the primary objectives of the Peace march:

1. To urge the international communities to boycott against the upcoming Beijing Olympic 2008.

2. To urge the United Nations and other international bodies to take cognizance of the violation of basic human rights in Tibet.

3. To gather support for the release of the XI Panchen Lama, Gendhun Choe-ki- Nyima, Tulku Tenzin Delek and other political prisoners.

4. To appealed to the Government of India to impress upon the government of Peoples’ Republic of China for the protection of Tibet’s fragile ecology.
