Mpotoane to be buried
Top South African ultra-marathon runner Michael Mpotoane will be buried in Bodibe village near Lichtenburg, North West, on Saturday.
Mpotoane died at a hospital in Thusong in the early hours of last Saturday soon after he was admitted. He was 37 at the time of his death.
Mpotoane, who started as a boxer in Toekomsrus before defecting to athletics, worked for Lifecare in Randfontein as an assistant physiotherapist.
In athletics, he did very well in ultra-marathons, winning the 50km Om Die Dam Marathon in Hartbeespoort in 1998, and finishing 10th in the Comrades Marathon that same year.
Mpotoane has represented Athletics South Africa in various events. Leonard Chuene, ASA president, has sent condolences to Mpotoane’s family. – Ramatsiyi Moholoa
