South Woodstock, Vermont, July 20. Andy Jones-Wilkins of Ketchum, Idaho successfully defended his title at the 2008 Vermont 100 Mile Endurance run, which finished here today. Jones-Wilkins edged
Kevin Sullivan of Andover, Massachusetts by seven minutes for the win. Seattle native Devon Crosby-Helms, running her first 100 miler, won the women’s race with a 19-minute cushion over Kelly Cronin
of Yosemite, California. 50-year-old Diana Fitzpatrick of Larkspur, California finished third.

The hilly course through the Green Mountains was plagued by temperatures in the upper 80s with high humidity. Heavy afternoon thunderstorms provided only temporary relief from the heat and times were
substantially slower than normal. 156 runners finished within the 30-hour time limit, out of 259 starters. Two additional runners completed the course in more than 30 hours. Karsten Solheim, 71, of Glendale,
Arizona was the last official finisher with a time of 29:59:49, a mere 11 seconds under the time limit.
